Senator John McCain (R-AZ) charged on Sunday that the Democrats’ healthcare plan was drafted in a “smoke-filled poker room” despite President Barack Obama’s campaign vow of openness on the issue.

“Both of us … promised ‘change in Washington,’” McCain, who challenged Obama for President in the 2008 election, reminded him at the White House healthcare summit.

“Eight times you said you would stop smoking and I agreed to support you in negotiations on healthcare reform” McCain said. “I’m a disappointed in you Mr. President, more than a year later, we have no healthcare bill and you are still smoking here in Washington.”

Senator McCain’s outburst came just 24 hours after the President’s doctors hinted that Barack Obama maybe sneaky cigarettes when his wife Michelle and the kids aren’t around to scold him about his nasty habit.

The President’s routine physical at Bethesda NMC found him in “excellent health” and “fit for duty” but the doctors also included a note for posterity for their Medical Malpractice insurers, the President should continue his “nicotine replacement therapy – self-use (gum or the patch),” the doctor said.
